Wow what a hassle with my wheel and tire warranty company!!

All, just off the phone with my wheel and tire warranty company (Three in One) sold to me by my Ford dealer. Came out to a flat rear tire this AM and they said they would likely pay for the "repair" cost. When I advised them this was a high speed tire on a track rated car that should be replaced - not patched - they started backpedaling... I called my Ford dealers Service Department and they didn't seem to understand you don't patch high speed rated tires either. With my Porsche (same tires) they never even questioned it - always a new tire. They only have 2K miles on them and I'd be happy to pay a pro-rated wear amount, but not happy having to pay for a new tire when I have the coverage!!

So we left it that the shop is going to call the warranty company and discuss once I bring the car in. I may end up asking for a refund of the warranty cost from my dealer, more to come!!

Sigh, I guess it's the speedbumps in life that make you appreciate the good times, count to 10 backwards, deep breath....

I believe the speed rating on a shoulder to shoulder patch is 120mph, plugs are 100. V and Z rated tires go much faster than that. Do not settle for a patch my friend. If they can’t replace the tire, I would request refund on the un-used policy.

UPDATE: I went to the tire shop and explained the situation, they agreed with me so I had them call the Warranty co and tell them they wouldn't take the liability of patching a speed rated tire. The warranty guy actually asked them if it looked like I had purposely damaged the tire to get a new one...the shop guy laughed and said, this tire is practically brand new, only has 2K miles on it and if you can afford this type of car you generally aren't trying to get free tires... I had "Premiere" warranty with my Porsche and next time will use them, they understand high performance and neither they, (nor Porsche), would take on the liability of patching a speed rated tire. I had three tires replaced over the time I owned my Porsche and they never questioned it. These guys just don't understand and think they are dealing with common grocery getters that rarely get a flat and can be repaired when they do...

They did end up replacing the tire for a total of $368.00
