I've got a brand new GT350. I sold my 1964 GTO with a 469cid stroker motor for the Shelby. My Old Goat was old school all the way. When I wanted to launch it at the track, I would hold the car in the lights with the line lock, hold the RPM with my right foot, and drop the clutch with my left foot. It was crude, but that's how it was done.

Enter my GT350 with computers, 526hp at 7400 RPM. I get it that the line locks are there for burnouts. And I get it that "Launch Control" is mostly just a 2-step rev limiter (plus when in drag mode the rear suspension softens to allow more weight transfer, and then the entire suspension eventually firms up for high speed driving as the car speeds down the track), and let me know if I have any of the technology wrong here...

So correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think I can use the line lock WHILE also using the launch control. Or can I?

Mind you, I only have 136 miles on the car so I'm still breaking it in, so I'm more just learning now, and not out beating the snot out of it until at least 500 miles to allow the rest of the car to break in too (ie, clutch, rear end, etc).

Also, please elaborate on how to properly use the line locks. I'm confused by the 15 second countdown and the OK button. Again, I only spent 2 days behind the wheel so far, so bear with me.

TIA,
Adam

Are you talking about having LC active (ready for use) while using line lock, or having LC actually engaged while using line lock? What it sounds like you're asking is whether you can have LC limit rpms while you have line lock enagaged to do a burnout. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The count down is the time you have to do your burnout, that is all. You do not have to use the whole time either, just push the ok button to release your front brakes or push in the clutch. After you warm up your tires then you stage and whatever rpm's you have launch control set at is where it will maintain the rpm's with the clutch in and gas to the floor until you launch. As long as you leave launch control turned on.

Yea, I was thinking about drag racing at the track. One would want to do a burnout first, (using line lock) then move up into the staging lights. At that point I would want to use linelock to hold the car stopped in the lights and use LC to launch. But if I only have 15 seconds to do that, it's not reliable enough (other guy could take longer than 15 seconds to stage, and if he's already staged, I wouldn't have enough time to activate linelock).

See, in my old school GTO, I just hold the linelock button when I want, let it go when I want. Simple. One button. This new school line lock seems to really only be good for burnouts. Which is fun, but limited.

The car will hold itself at the light. I do not think that would both work at the same time like you are thinking. Plus it takes a few seconds to get the line lock to activate, if some one got staged while you were waiting for it to activate you may miss the tree. I have dragged mine a lot and you do not need line lock to hold it at the tree. If you thought you needed something just use light pressure with the parking brake, when you launch release the brake.

Yes the parking brake idea crossed my mind too. Just curious about the modern electronics and all.

I didn't see that. Do you recall what page?

Is this what you are referring to? The "wheel slip" part?

Launch control (LC)
Minimizes wheel slip during standing start.
Feature is enabled or disabled using the 5-way switches or through the LC button on
the center stack.
RPM setting allows user to set the Launch RPM value within the allowable range.
Page 16
Later it states that LC does the following:

Launch control switch

Manages brakes
and electronic
throttle to optimize
launch performance.
What exactly is it doing when the car is "managing brakes?"
