Track attack dirver school

Is this event like other HPDE courses where there are passing zones and controlled passes (i.e. pass only with a point) ? I have been running with a group that we can pass anywhere but with a point. I am scheduled for Oct for the two day event--am looking forward to it

When you go to register, have your VIN available as they will verify ownership. They ask for the dealership where you purchased the car. They are very helpful.

My son and I just finished the GT350 one day Track Attack at the Ford Performance School in Tooele Utah this week. I was given a stock GT350 for the day and my son, as a driving guest, drove a GT 5.0 that had been modified for track.
The course included a combination of classroom, heel/toe, skid car, breaking, cornering, shifting, drive mode testing and time with instructors both inside and outside the car. They were quick to let you know when mistakes were made and quicker at giving praise when you did well with a real desire to teach you how to drive this car. My overall driving skills drastically improved - or at least I thought so until the hot laps with the instructors. These guys are experienced pro drivers and I couldn’t believe how hard they could push these engines and brakes! Ford has really built an extraordinary piece of machinery in the 350 – even the pros commented on how much they love driving these cars.
In Addition to the hot laps we both got certificates signed by the instructors, tee shirts, nice trophies and a thumb drive with over 200 photos taken by the track photographer. My wife says I’m way too happy in the pictures and she’s right! Couldn’t wipe the sht-eating grin off my face if I tried! One note: adding the guest driver is a little expensive but well worth it. My son really learned some valuable skills that apply to everyday driving out there. Unfortunately he also learned how really drive my 350 which means a few expensive tickets… hopefully not.

My son and I took the course at Bondurant in Mustang GT's when he was just 16. Best thing I could have ever done. From the instructors he learned that driving fast on public streets takes no skill and no brains, and gained an appreciation for what a car can do, accident avoidance, in the hands of a skilled driver. Twice I have no doubt that knowledge allowed him to turn serious situations into good stories.
Now he may accompany me 18 years later at the Ford GT350 Track Attack next spring.

On way back from Trackattack and all I can say is, if you are thinking about going, stop thinking and do it!!! Fantastic experience and, whether you track or not, will give you skills and an appreciation of what the car can do.
Instructors are awesome and eager to teach and answer questions.

I went on August 9th. Had a blast. Best parts were the track time (of course) and the miniature slalom course. The slalom was low-speed, and helped me understand the cornering limits of the car, as well as some of the over and understeer characteristics. The track time itself was a ball and I thought it was very well done. They begin with 'lead-follow' for about 12 laps, then each driver got some one on one instructor time for about four laps more. Then we were on our own, two groups doing alternating 20 minute sessions. Passing wasn't allowed, but when I caught someone they usually pulled into the pits and allowed me to go by, which was considerate. Scared myself at the end of the main straight. Kept braking later and later until I finally thought I wasn't going to make it. Exhilarating and fun... The course is short enough that you can quickly memorize the corners and experiment with braking points, etc. Very well done and I encourage any GT350 owner to try it.

We used the East Course. Tighter and more 'technical' (i.e. slower). You can run the entire circuit in third gear. I used fourth gear twice on the main straight, but only for a couple of seconds each time. I would have been better off to stay in third, as I lost my focus regarding braking and turn in points while working the shifter through a 'heel and toe' downshift (which they teach in the morning session).
The skid cars were used. I was the first to drive one, so I probably became the poster child for what not to do. Spun it once when the instructor dialed up the oversteer, then babied it the rest of the time. I learned quite a bit riding as a passenger while the other students took the wheel.

Thanks for the feedback. I am anxious to go. I have spent a lot of time on a skid pad but never used a skid car--should be interesting to see how it goes. It is a little different when they initiate the over steer vs doing it your self. Will let you know how it goes. I will review the East Course to prepare for my two days. Heel toe seems to be tougher in the GT350 than my usual track car (2009 GT500) as the brakes seems to be fairly sensitive--and I am running the large brakes and track pads on the GT500. Haven't mastered a smooth heel toe yet. Gonna practice.
Have you been to any tracks near your home? Any recommendations as we are always looking for new venues.

Well, I am here for Track Attack--review to follow. Hard to believe this track is in middle of no where but looks like a nice facility. Had time to kill today so watched the motorcycle races--now that is just plain crazy, and ran the go karts for awhile. Warm (75 degrees) and sunny--very windy today. Calling for some rain tomorrow so we will see if they take us out. I have run a lot in the rain so I am not too concerned but the school might be. Will follow this with a report tomorrow and then again on Tuesday as I am staying for the second day
