Tow Hook Recommendations?

10774 Views 13 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Eric The MadMan
So I’m set up for my first track day (NorCal Shelby Club Outing), and it think installing tow hooks on the car for any track mishaps would be a good idea. Can I get feedback on the 2 different varieties I see on the market? ZL1ADDONS has the nicest looking set (front and rear), but also Ford has a pair too.

Has anyone used either? Input? Thx.

I went with one from Rocket Science Racing. Pretty beefy.
Never seen them, or find them?

I decided on the ZL1ADDONS version. Sells as a receiver front and rear. Same hook will fit either and also looks stout. Could only find rear receiver avaiable directly from ZL1ADDONS. I’ll pic when i get it.

Finally, I put on my Tow Hook this morning. Unit was sandwiched between frame mount and a rod for the Radiator Fan support. Tight quarters, but the track I’m going to Saturday (Thunderhill) requires it (they got tired of tow truck damage claims?).

But I think it looks good and will do a good job. Plenty robust!

Looks like a really high quality piece. I assume you can screw it on and off pretty easily? Just keep the hook in the Glovebox when not in use?

Yes it does, and got a receiver for rear. Stout.

Tight quarters. Good hook though, worth the skinned knuckles.

Hi Jim

Did you install rear tow hook as well ? The manufacturer's photos looked as tough the rear was in the middle of the license plate location.

Yes, the receiver is under the rear license plate. Bought the hook as a Front & Rear Reciever with single hook.
Hey Jim,
Can you tell us how difficult the rear receiver was to install? Can't find any PDFs or video instructions. Did you remove the rear bumper? Bottom plate? Or both? Same question for the front receiver. Thanks!

The rear valance/cover has to be removed. 2 bolts are run through the metal cross brace of the rear bumper and you have to cut a 1” hole through cover (behind plate) for receiver to screw in. Saw someone at the track the other day who went ahead a put a hole in their license plate and hung the hook all the time (?). I leave the hook on the front (would move to back if a situation prompted it).

Great, I was wondering if it was easily taken off ... don't want to run around town in my DD with the tow hook on - tends to bring unwanted attention ;)
