Time to MOD! - Headers, Tune, Intake!

Labor day weekend I decided I would take the plunge and order the parts I had been researching and contemplating over for the past few months.

Just this week I received the following parts:
- Kooks long tube headers
- Kooks race catted x-pipe/mid pipes
- Lund Flex Fuel tune and nGauge

Parts I ordered and am waiting on:
- JLT Intake
- JLT Coil Covers
- JLT Passenger side oil separator

The JLT intake is planned to arrive this week. The Lund tune and JLT intake will go on together since the intake requires a tune.

The headers and x-pipe will go on October 3rd at a local shop.

Once I install the tune and intake I will run the rest of the 91 out of the tank and fill up with E85.

As soon as the headers are installed Im having the shop run a dyno to see where we ended up. Im not running a baseline first since I do not really care that much to see the "exact" gains. Im also unable to have the parts installed within the same day for consistent dyno runs. I know the car should be around the same stock numbers most everyone else has got off their baseline dynos.

I am super excited to see/feel the results! Cant wait to hear it in person and see what E85/header combo will do to the bottom end torque.

once its completed I will get some videos up

here are some photos of parts that arrived and the ones I have on there way Vehicle Car Land vehicle Building Hood

Awesome.

I have contemplated modding my exhaust, but it sounds so good the way it is, I'm going to leave it alone. :D
Hello,
Please advise.
What's the advantage of using e85 ?
Thanks
Tim

I agree with you, love the stock sound of exhaust! And if I like it better stock after he headers are on I'll take them off and go back to stock 👍🏼

Hey Tim,

E85 is higher octane and with that more tq and hp. Technically it's a flex fuel tune so I can run 91 or e85 or a mixture of the two. The computer will adjust to the correct air fuel ratio based off what's in the tank.

Luckily there are two stations carrying flex fuel ethanol fuel near me so filling up with e85 regularly will be easy.

Also e85 is around $1.99 per gallon near me. However the mpg on e85 is not as good as standard 91. So it's basically a wash, maybe a little less cost out of pocket for fuel using e85 vs 91.

Short answer = more power 👍🏼👍🏼

Eager to hear how everything meshes together. Please post updates when able. Thanks
Don't want to be a buzzkill.......but keep an eye on the long tubes. These engines produce so much vibration, that the stock exhaust is designed to absorb the vibration. I know a few guys that did the long tubes.....and they have cracked, every one of them. Engine problems as well. Also talked with the engineers from Ford that engineered this car, and they confirmed my suspicions. Long tubes......sure they said.....they will work.....for awhile. Supercharger? Turbo? Sure.....engine will last for not so long.

Do what you want with your car, just keep an eye on it. Good luck!

Hey CYAZ06 I appreciate the heads up man!

I guess time will tell how the car handles the headers. I trust that Kooks has done their research and engineered the LT's well enough to not have those issues but even if I do have problems with the LTs I can always go back and fix the issue.

Here is Kooks description of their LT's
DESCRIPTION
1 3/4" x 1 7/8" x 3" heavy duty crack resistant Stainless Steel Long Tube Stepped Headers
Must be used with Kooks X-Pipe
O2 extensions, Cosmetic header gaskets, Stage 8 locking bolts, and all installation hardware included
These products are NOT legal for sale, installation, or use on a licensed vehicle in the state of California, and they do NOT meet CARB compliance

"Crack Resistent" - thats what they claim but you never know.

Will be going into the shop this monday : ) Ill report back once they are on!
