Hi all,

So I signed up for a car meet/ race school and was reviewing what I need to be legal on the track and noticed my Helmet (purchased 20 years ago) was well out of date and Fire Proof gloves? I have a couple questions for anyone who has track driven our cars.

1. Full Face or Open Face Helmet. I wear glasses, which include Scrip Sunglasses. Any suggestions, I have nowhere to try before I buy.

2. Gloves, Alpinstars is a familiar name, any others I should look for that will pass the fireproof rating?

Thanks for any input.

If you just want to pass tech, Pyrotech suff is really cheap and sufficient. It is offered at the 24 Hours of Lemons store online or Summit or other places as well. I would look at Racers Warehouse, Summit, Jegs or other online race suppliers. Also, Sonoma Raceway has an on site store if you are near there. I would go full face on the helmet. Consider carbon fiber. They are more expensive but is is much nicer being lighter. I don't think head protection is a good place to skimp. Also consider the HANS Hybrid. It is available directly from Simpson and other places as well. This seems to be one of the few head retention devices that works with standard lap belts. Unfortunately it is about $1000.

Well I didn’t go for the Carbon Fiber, but got the PyroTech ProSport Duckbill. Summit shipped to me in 2 days. Still pretty light and pads on interior are adjustable enough to accommodate my glasses. I ordered a pair of Alpinestar TECH 1 gloves from someone on eBay out of Great Britain. Cut almost $50 off any price here in U.S.

Thanks for the recommendation.
