Nightmare!

Someone wake me up cause I must be in a nightmare...

Went to the DMV a couple days ago to pick up my new personal plates QUIK 350 and they wouldn't give me the plates, said there was a registration problem with my car that needed to be sorted out in Sacramento and I have to wait till someone from Sacramento calls me...WTF? I bought the car brand new from the Ford dealership and paid cash, I have the title, what could be the issue?

Tired of waiting for a phone call the may never come so I called DMV and the lady helping me said she could see that I purchased the Shelby on Jan 10th of this year but then on Mar 28th it was transferred into someone else's name, I'm NOT the current registered owner of the car!

Update: as I'm writing this I finally got through to someone in Sacramento and we figured out that the Audi I traded in to the dealership when I bought the Shelby was sold/transferred to a buyer on Mar 28th and the dealership somehow screwed up and registered my Shelby to that other buyer, it had something to do with the personal plates GOT ZEP that came off my Audi and went onto the Shelby. I don't know, they are still trying to sort it all out.. do you believe this crap?

Sounds to me like the dealer owes you a couple of favors for their screw-up and your trouble.

yeah I agree, not sure what would make up for this though. Right now I'm not the registered owner of my car and I'm on record as the registered owner of my old Audi which someone else now has, so if they do anything stupid with that car (toll booth violations) I'm getting the tickets. And this won't be straightened out for a while, Sacramento told me to call back next week to check on the progress. My dealership won't take my calls, I've left 3 messages...

I think maybe a personal visit to your dealership is in order. It would be a little harder for them to ignore you when you're in their face. Good luck with this. It truly is a nightmare.

Dude, it’s time to go to the Dealer. Ask for the General Sales Manager or better the General Manager. DMV work isn’t a minimum wage job, but some dealers think so. If you need it, I do mediation work in the automotive industry (my retirement job) and would be glad to help. Good luck.

Wow that stinks but it sounds like things will <eventually> sorted out. However, your dealer not taking/returning your calls is flat unacceptable. That's just shady business practice and laziness, I'd head down to the dealer finance dept. with an attitude. Mistakes happen but the fact that YOU are in the DMV "quagmire" is not right...your dealer s/b bending over backwards to straighten this out...

The dealership where I bought the car is 90 min. North of me so I'll go there as a last resort.
As for things being sorted out, yeah, but at the moment my biggest concern is the ownership history trail.
Currently the DMV records show a history of 2 owners of the car and when it finally gets transferred back into my name I'll be the 3rd owner.
I'm being pro-active now in making sure the slate gets wiped clean.
Would not accept a Carfax report showing a history of 3 owners (my car only has 870 miles on it).
I'll keep you posted..

Update

Never did get any help from the dealership, as a matter of fact they never returned any of my calls and the letter I sent to the General mgr of the dealership went unanswered. They simply buried their head in the sand. I am planning to write a letter to Ford America.

So my constant phone calls to DMV Sacramento special processing finally paid off, got a mgr to set up my case and a few days ago I got a phone call saying it was straightened out and the car is back in my name, and the transfer history has been wiped clean, and they are sending me a new registration paper. So yesterday I went down to the DMV that has been sitting on my new plates, there they are right in front of me (pic below) but they can't assign them to my car because my car's registration is locked up, they say it will be sometime next week before it clears, so I have to go back, for a 3rd time...
so F'n close!

Must be so frustrating...you can see and touch them...but you can't have them!! Nice plate by the way will look great with your black paint! Glad it's finally getting straightened out!!

Sounds like a small claim against the dealership for all the trouble would probably up their response times.
