2018 GT350 Ordering

I'm considering ordering a 2018 GT350. From what I can see, there's practically no 2017 stock left with the convenience package in the US.

One dealer I spoke to said they would take an order for a 2018, but can anyone tell me if Ford is actually taking orders, or the dealer would just be hanging on to my deposit and submitting it later once the 2018 is officially released.

What are the pros and cons of ordering early? I know dealers have certain allotments of GT350s they can buy, but I don't know if direct customer orders are part of that, or separate. I know they get increased allotments if they sell more. Just trying to figure out benefits from the dealers side so I'm in the best negotiating position.

Any insight anyone has would be much appreciated.

-I was wondering the same Bart.
Most 2017 are in final build. We have a 17 that just got serialized and doubt that anything can be changed at this point. The 2018 allocations and order banks for the 2018 model year open up sometime in July

Thank you Don.
Why did ford quit offering the convenience package half way thru 2017. I am not a big fan of my Recaros and would have much rather had leather.
Most think because of manufacturer allotment. And more bought the convenience pkg. then expected. I was lucky my dealership last spring found me a new 2017 with the convenience pkg. And just two weeks after that Ford stopped allowing that pkg.
In 17 Ford anticipated 25% sales for the convenience pack. They had 38% orders. People that were in the 26% - 38% bracket had to go look for a 17 or , like I did, wait for the 18s. Mine is being built 10/26/18. Should get it in Nov. The order date for the 18 opened in mid Aug. They are starting to run them Oct 2nd. From what I have read, it will be a limited run of only 7 month. Order soon if there are any allotments left.
My order was picked up on July 27. My GT 350 will be built on Oct 26, 2017. This means I should take delivery of it about the second week in Nov. Just in time to cover it for the winter.
Ordered mine today! Lightning Blue with White stripe with convenience package. Is there a website to track build on order? Thanks!
Convenience is Now "Cool"

This is a subject of interest to me as the owner of a '17 Ruby Convenience Package GT350. When I made up my mind last summer to buy a Shelby, I tried really hard to like the Recaros. After all, they had considerably more bolstering than all of the seats any of my prior Z06 and ZR1 Vettes had...and they just looked so "right" for a Shelby. And I tried, and tried, and...well tried. But the Recaros were ok for me to get into, so-so to sit in, and literally painful for me to try to get out of. At 6'2", and 214 lbs I am not overweight, but the combination of being in my 60's, 12 years of football were too much. A Recaro equipped '17 was not too difficult to find in one of the colors I wanted, and hell, one dealer even offered to have an upholstery shop "custom fit" the driver's side seat to my liking. Was it just me?

Nope. Then I found out that Ford had seriously underestimated how many people might want the "sofa seats" as some derisively call them. Which was interesting, because these seats had more bolstering than some of the performance model Vette seats I was on the track with. And hey, what's not to like about air conditioned seats living in North Florida? Maybe Ford "forgot" that a lot of people who could afford to pay $60+k for a "toy" might not be in their 20's or guys in their 30s to 50's still raising kids. Hmmm. Hell, I heard even Leno had the Recaros replaced in his R. And maybe if I had a bit more disposable toy money, I might have bought an R, eaten the ADM (paid MSRP for mine) replaced the seats, replaced the track special tires for when I was driving it on the street (most of the time) and called it a day.

So began 9 weeks of looking for a new convenience package car before locating the one I own now. And now, I hear more and more people commenting about the desirability of the so-called sofas. Interesting how that all works. ;)

I was looking for the convenience package also, but had to settle for the Recaros instead since the dealership was willing to let one go below MSRP. Even at 5'04, I find the Recaros very uncomfortable compared to the leather seats in my Mustang GT. The Recaros do look nice in the car though.
At 5'10" they fit me perfectly. Though I am surprised at the lack of adjustment on these seats. Was spoiled for sure on my Porsche as it had 14 way adjustable heated/cooled leather sport seats including lumbar and thigh support. Afraid the Alcantara isn't going to hold up well in the long term but at least, (for me), they are very comfortable.
I ordered my '18 with the conveinence package and when it finally went into production and I was able to see the window sticker it is being built with the sofa seats which are more comfortable than the Recaros. They underestimated the demand for the seats in '17 and many orders were placed on hold and then switched to the Recaros. Seems like it's not a problem with the '18 cars. I also think that dealer stock cars may not get the conveinence package as easily as a customer ordered car, but that's just my thoughts.
Any GT350 a dealer orders is out of his allotment. Direct customer orders are not separate. The dealer where I ordered mine only gets 1 GT350 per year. To get more than that it is based on how many Mustangs the dealer sells. I had one dealer tell me that they had to sell 20 5.0 cars to gain another GT350 and then had to sell another 20 5.0 cars to get the 3rd GT350. After earning 2 additional GT350s for a total of 3 the dealer then earns a GT350R. It's really stacked against the small dealer..
When looking for ours I hunted and hunted for the convenience package after trying the Recaros. Ended up getting ours in town. The guy that ordered the one we got, got tired of waiting for the recall to be completed and canceled the deal. Took delivery last May 2017 and I'm pretty sure this was one of the few in the country still available.
Guess I was lucky. I talked to a dealer in late October about ordering a 2018 GT350 with the convenience package and was told they wouldn't be taking orders until this April. A week later I got a call from the sales guy to let me know Ford was sending them a 350 with the convenience package. It wasn't the color I wanted but after thinking about it I gave them a deposit. I picked the car up on 11/20 and as it turned out, couldn't be happier with the color.

And that color seems to be a definate “New Mexico” kind-a color.

Hey Ringmaster, if you haven't done so already, would you post pics of your Orange Fury GT350? That's a color that I'd not normally consider but it really grows on you!!

My avatar is a picture of it. I have more pictures and I'll try to get them up after I resize them. I didn't think much of the color when I saw it on ford.com but it looks way different when you see it on the car and I'm really glad I bought it.

Looks good and at least there aren't a million of them out there, (like my lightning blue GT350), I like the blue but would be nice if you weren't seeing it on base model Mustangs, F-150's, etc...
