I know I can't shift in 100 ms, but I can definitely shift quickly and under at least 1 second. In practicality, nobody "needs" this in terms of track days. Hell even in a race, is that time differential between shifts really going to be what costs you the race? My guess is no. But on the flip side, it's driving technology forward and who knows, in 10-20 years, this might be the norm. Also, they won't have to design two separate transmission for the car, which could save on costs.

Either way, clutch and stick is still more exciting as I'm sure would most agree. You feel more connected to the car in my opinion.

I’m also a big fan of manual transmissions, but they are getting very hard to come by. Even trucks - I had to special order my 99 F250, and Ford and GM no longer offer manuals except in some oversized truck models. We have one (of 6) cars with an auto and I have to admit they work a lot better than old slushboxes. As someone said, in 10-20 years I’d be surprised if you can buy a manual transmission.

You are probably right. In 2001 we had to buy our CR-V 300 miles away to find a manual; in 2007 we bought a Suzuki Aerio for an airport car and there was still a pretty decent choice on the lot. Walk down the line of Mustangs at any big Ford dealer and you are lucky to find one.

We kept the Aerio in Memphis until my wife retired as a FedEx pilot two years ago. When she would loan it to other pilots there was about a 50-50 chance that they couldn’t drive it. Guys in their 30’s and 40’s.

So the super new transmission in the GT500 will shift in 100 ms (!).

If this is important, Ford has made the case not to buy a GT500. The Tesla Model S doesn't shift at all.

The market for GT500s will be mature buyers, people with enough money that they can spend $80,000 for a Mustang.
The marketing pitch that "it will shift in 100 ms" is going to fall completely flat. If a buyer will be influenced by this techno slant, they will be a Tesla customer, not Ford's.

Also note that the Model S is way faster 0-60 than the GT500.

    https://www.motortrend.com/cars/tesl...t-test-review/

'This 4,891-pound Tesla Model S P100D does it best, reaching 30, 40, 50, and 60 mph from a standstill more quickly than any other production vehicle we've ever tested, full stop. In our testing, no production car has ever cracked 2.3 seconds from 0 to 60 mph. But Tesla has, in 2.275507139 seconds.'

At 70 years old, and having owned 4 Mustangs, the ad line that 'it will shift in 100ms' is a huge NEGATIVE. A DERAILER.
