The reason I'm getting the spare tire is every time I get a flat the tire is ruined because the nail is in the sidewall.

I’m glad you posted this as I was wondering what others were doing on this subject. Going to get kit now.

The speed rating of the tires exceeds the speed rating of any patch. Hole in the sidewall or hole in the tread, tire is toast. FYI, California has laws against there use.

I asked the Auto Fanatic guy who made the video if he replaced the tire or is still using it and his reply was it's still on the car and he's hits speeds of 120+, no problems.
Not saying it's right or wrong, but that was his answer to my question.
Personally I'm more interested in that kit just to keep me from being stranded or towed.

    Who says?

    California has laws against everything.

The owner's manual for my 1991 ZX-11 Ninja (a motorcycle with a top speed higher than that of our GT350s) said that plugs were just fine to use, so long as they weren't near the sidewall, and that for every plug, one should treat the tire as the next lower speed rating: Z becomes V, V becomes H, and H becomes S, with a maximum of three plugs in a tire.

Having said that, a sticky string such as the one shown in the video is commonly regarded as a "get you home" measure. Industry standard for a proper repair is to dismount the tire and use a mushroom plug inserted from the inside to the outside. I've run tens of thousands of miles with no issue on tires with such repairs.

    Tire Repair

So I was doing a full cleaning of my wheels & brakes, removing the wheels, and always take that opportunity to inspect the tire surface, and look what I found.. It was holding air, never knew it was there. Gave me a chance to use that tire repair kit that's been in the trunk since I created this thread, luckily for me I was in the comfort of my garage to do it for the first time, and with the wheel off. I was surprised how hard it was to push the plug in. Been driving it around town for the last 2wks and it's holding air perfectly. Great kit to have.

I have had to plug both of my rear tires and one of them wouldnt hold air due to the plug being close to the side wall but the other one was in the center of the tire and I have 5k miles on that one with no issue.

I tend to not run over nails but when i do. Majority of the time is a tire replacement.

I bought one a while back for long bike trips but decided it was too heavy to pack on the bike. I still carry a Stop and Go plug kit on the bike and in the car.
