    Angry A/C Noise

Has anyone heard a slight humming noise coming from the A/C. Especially when the vehicle is cold, when I first turn it on. I noticed it yesterday when my radio was off. It sounded like a hum that went along with the acceleration. Once the vehicle warmed up, it disappeared. When I turn it off, I can actually hear the difference in the sound. Since it has been cold, my A/C hasn't turned on in awhile. I already tried turning off different things individually, radio, fan, lights, and A/C. The only times the sound goes away is when the A/C is turned off.

Hot months coming, I may have no choice but to take it in to the Dealership.

Sounds like you’ve done half of the Dealerships work. I would create a duplicatable fault for the Service Advisor and Tech (if he’ll listen). Listen under your hood with someone cycling A/c on and off. Sound from A/C Compressor? Put a long screw driver on compressor and use as a chassis ear to help isolate. Last model compressors have close clearances and do fail. Be happy... It’s for free, it’s warranty! Good luck.

DTorres, sorry to hear that, hope it turns out to be nothing!! Mine is fine but since I only got the car in early Oct. I've not used it very much.

Jim's suggestion with listening with a long screwdriver is a good one...

I checked in my engine compartment today. The noise was actually louder outside of the car than inside. I turned in on later, and I noticed that the driver side air temp was warmer than the passenger side. Sigh. Now to take it in for service.

Although it's the same evaporator, the driver side A/C is the first to lose it's cooling ability when the system has a leak and the refrigerant (R134 gets low). The system has dye added at Flat rock, so have the dealer check for leaks with the black light, especially around the (hard to see) compressor shaft if it's making noise.

Thanks for the input. I will surely have them check that out. Hopefully, it will be something easy, although the noise is not good.

Got my car back today. They replaced the compressor. The Freon level was fine. apparently the pressure was 50/145. The compressor noise got louder too. Hopefully, all good now.

Based on numbers, was an internal failure in compressor. Contained is good.
