    Engine noise / resonation

Hi, just bought a 2018 GT350. What a beast, love everything about the car.

Here’s the situation; driving at say 2k rpms or 2.5k, give slight gas, there is noise resonating for a second or two. Noticeable in 2, 3, 4 gears. Haven’t tried 5 or 6 yet. Notice the problem on the way to the Ford dealer this morning for an oil change. Does not exhibit the problem under decent or heavy acceleration.

Not sure if the noise is there until the motor gets warm. It’s only a 10 min drive this morning to the dealer; oil change and resolving an air bag light.

Appreciate any inputs and guidance....is this normal?

    Thanks

I have the same exact issue you’ve described regardless of whether the engine is cold or hot. I have no idea what it is. Sounds like a vibration from the engine or transmission at certain rpm situations. Would love to hear if anyone has an idea about what might be causing it. It’s making me a crazy!

Guys welcome to owning a gt350... this is a “normal” sound as described by FORD. They claim it’s “piston” slap because of the design of the forged pistons in the motor. Apparently there’s some factory designed play or what not, but it’s considered “normal.” Don’t wrap your head around it too much, it will just upset you. We paid for a $60k noise maker 🤔

Yep, the design of any performance motor comes with piston slap. Live with it and enjoy the car.

SSM 46173 - Some 2016-2017 GT350 Mustangs Might Exhibit Piston Rattle From Idle To 3000 RPM
Some 2016-2017 Mustang GT350 equipped with the 5.2L engine may exhibit a rattleor rapping type sound during cold operation at light loads and speeds from Idle- 3000 RPM. The noise will be most noticeable during light acceleration in the 1500-3000 RPM range and may also be noticeable in the 800-1200 RPM range with neutral throttle blips. This sound is caused by the piston motion in the cylinder bore. This is an inherent characteristic of the forged aluminum pistons utilizedin this high performance engine. Once the engine reaches operating temperature the noise will diminish, although it may still be noticeable even when fully warm. There are no durability concerns with this sound.
